What are Casing and Tubing Pup Joints?

Pup Joint is a short pipe of non-standard length that is used to adjust the length of tubular strings. It is also a type of saver sub that protects the kelly and top drive component threads by preventing them from being impacted during the drill string assembly. It is available in seamless constructions and a variety of sizes, diameters and grades. For spacing out your casing and tubing strings and subset equipment, pup joints allow for the adjustment of tools and other tubular components when downhole placement is critical, are an excellent solution to your piping needs,
The pup joint is an expendable and very inexpensive tool that saves wear on the kelly or top drive threads which represent a significant capital cost and considerable downtime when replaced. Wiho Industrial offers a wide variety of pup joints for casing and tubings, they are manufactured according to API Spec 5CT using prime API monogrammed seamless oil country tubing. Our manufacturing pup joints can be found in a range of sizes from 2 3/8” to 24” with custom lengths and types of connections offered upon request. They have a reduced inside diameter to match that of the tool joint that they mate with and are phosphate coated to impede galling during makeup operations. All pup joint stock is manufactured as AISI 4145H or 4140H-modified alloy with an API, 8-round thread. They are certified to API Standards by an independent 3rd party laboratory prior to coupling manufacturing.
